THE THEATRICAL CULINARY PROJECT

Co-Conceived by & Developed with Sasha Eden & Marlo Hunter
Executive Chef – Carla Hall
Written by Jeff Augustin, Martyna Majok, Daniel Pearle, Harrison David Rivers & Julian Sheppard
Directed by Marlo Hunter

The Theatrical Culinary Project is an immersive, naturalistic play blending the theatrical and culinary arts into one live experience. Taking place in a fictitious Michelin Star restaurant run by Chef Carla Hall, the audience sits within the set, submerged in a layered narrative that explores racial, gender, cultural and class biases, the consequences that expectations and micro-aggressions have on our humanness, and how they impact our ability to connect with one another.

Our team features Co-Conceiver, Actor & Creative Producer, Sasha Eden (co-founder, WET Productions, The Disappearance of Eleanor Rigby), Co-Conceiver & Director, Marlo Hunter (Unlock'd), Executive Chef & Culinary Producer, Carla Hall (The Chew, Top Chef), and critically acclaimed playwrights Jeff Augustin (La Jolla and Berkeley Rep's The Last Tiger in Haiti), Lanford Wilson and Helen Hayes Award winner, Martyna Majok (Women's Project's Ironbound, MTC's Cost of Living), Daniel Pearle (LCT3's A Kid Like Jake, 2018 Sundance Film Festival, A Kid Like Jake), Harrison David Rivers (Williamstown's Where Storms Are Born),and Drama Desk nominee Julian Sheppard (Underwood Theater's Buicks, Complete Unknown- Sundance 2016).

Each playwright on the team is writing a play about fictitious diners or staff within this restaurant, and through a series of workshops we are interweaving their plays to create one cohesive, three-act narrative, taking place in real time as the audience (and characters) dine on a four-course meal prepared by Chef Carla Hall. Carla's menu mirrors the dramatic structure and emotional tenor of the plays themselves.
