DECEMBER 2016

Marlo is honored to be in residence at the Sundance Institute's lab at MASS MoCA, directing a two-week workshop of Michael R. Jackson and Anna K. Jacob's stunning new musical, Teeth. The cast includes Kathleen Monteleone, Van Hughes, Marrick Smith, Bonnie Milligan, Madeline Trumble, and Isabelle McCalla. Musical Direction by Lynne Shankel.



NOVEMBER 2016

Marlo directs a production of Moliere's ever-timely satire, Tartuffe at the Atlantic Theater's Atlantic Acting School, featuring 3rd year New York University Tisch School of the Arts students. The production will run November 16th-20th at The Atlantic Stage 2 Theater.



SEPTEMBER 2016

Marlo leads a script development workshop for The Theatrical Culinary Project in New York City. Acclaimed playwrights Jeff Augustin, Elizabeth Irwin, Daniel Pearle and Julian Sheppard collaborate with each other and with Chef Carla Hall to create a an immersive production set in a restaurant, where the lines of reality and fiction are blurred as the audience dines on a four-course meal while submerged in a multi-layered play.  The team is also led by Co-Conceiver and Creative Producer, Sasha Eden, and includes dramaturg Anne Davison. www.TheatricalCulinaryProject.com

Marlo directs Jonathan Larson Grant-winning composer, Sam Salmond's Joe's Pub concert on September 28th! As described by the Joe's Pub site: "Sam Salmond comes to Joe's Pub with a gang of Broadway's best to present lively, infectious and disarming songs from Eighty-Sixed and other upcoming musicals! Don't miss this rare chance to hear the premiere of one-of-a-kind tunes about teenage outcasts, LGBT heroes, monsters, mad scientists, prisoner paradoxes, good ol' love, and so much more. With a style the Boston Globe calls "preciously talented," "rudely funny," but with "raw anguish at its heart," and musical influences from Bowie to Ben Folds to Sondheim-- Sam Salmond and friends promise a night of pop/rock theater, laughter and catharsis that you'll never forget! The evening is music directed by Benjamin Rauhala and features new orchestrations by the one and only Charlie Rosen! AUGUST 2016

Costs of Living, a new musical by Timothy Huang, will have a reading presentation at The Village Theatre's Festival of New Musicals in Issaquah, Washington. Marlo directs a cast led by Rich Ceraulo (Flower Drum Song, "Walking Dead"), and Hansel Tan. The Festival runs August 12-14 – more info here.



JUNE 2016

Marlo directs another workshop of the new musical, Teeth through the Musical Theatre Factory in residence at Playwrights Horizons. Music by Anna K. Jacobs, Words by Michael R. Jackson, Book by Anna K. Jacobs & Michael R. Jackson. Adapted from the 2007 Sundance Award-winning indie horror film by Mitchell Lichtenstein, Teeth tells the story of Dawn O'Keefe, an evangelical Christian teen who discovers that she has teeth in her vagina. When forces conspire to destroy her, Dawn must decide which part of herself she will save and which she will sacrifice. Presentations on Thursday, June 30th. More info soon!



JUNE 2016

Island Song will have a full production at the Adirondack Theatre Festival in Glens Falls, NY! Our incredible cast features Kathleen Monteleone (Hands on a Hardbody), Maddy Trumble (Newsies), Aaron Galligan-Stierle (Phantom of the Opera), Philippe Arroyo and Emily Schultheis. Telling the story of five contemporary New Yorkers as they pursue their passions, resist distraction, and live out a "twisted love affair" with the city, Island Song captures every urbanite's triumphs, disappointments, and ever-tested perspective. Island Song is Directed & Choreographed by Marlo, with Music by Derek Gregor, Words by Sam Carner, and a Story by Carner, Gregor & Hunter. Marlo directs a thesis production at NYU's Graduate Musical Theatre Writing Program.

Marlo returns to her alma mater to teach her Freelance Artist's Manifesto Boot Camp to current Princeton students who are aspiring artists. She'll also be leading the FAM Boot Camp for Western Carolina University students in NYC. – more info here.

Marlo has been granted a Drama League Rough Draft residency to explore her staging of Carner & Gregor's Island Song. She'll present a few numbers from the show for an invited audience on Friday, March 4th followed by an open discussion guided by central questions she's exploring about this uniquely structured musical.

Marlo directs Adam Gwon & Sarah Hammond's new musical, String, in concert at 54 Below on February 16th, featuring Jose Llana, Whitney Bashor, Margo Seibert, Jeremy Morse, and many more. Concerts at 7pm & 9:30pm. More info and tickets here.



JANUARY / FEBRUARY 2016

Marlo is partnering with Quiet Events to create a theatrical wing for the company: Quiet Theater. Marlo directs the company's inaugural play, "Boy Meets Girl", where you get to eavesdrop on a couple's first date. Not only will you be able to hear what they are saying…but what they are THINKING too!  "Boy Meets Girl" is an interactive play where you get to tune into to the girl or guy's inner thoughts using special Quiet Events headphones. With one push of the button, you choose whether to stick with one or swap between the two.

David and Katie both swiped right… so they must be perfect for each other, right? Go on their first date and find out. You'll get a hilarious glimpse into what are guys and girls really thinking when they first meet. Shows on January 29th & February 12th at Hudson Station. More info and tickets here.



OCTOBER 2015

On October 15th & 16th Marlo directs concert presentations of Timothy Huang's musical, Costs of Living at NAMT's 27th Annual Festival of New Musicals at New World Stages. Based on a true story, Costs of Living chronicles the lives of two immigrant cab drivers who come to New York for the American dream but instead find a nightmare scenario.



SEPTEMBER 2015

Marlo enters a new collaboration on the development of the musical Teeth, with music by Anna K. Jacobs, lyrics by Michael R. Jackson, and book by Jacobs & Jackson. Teeth is a musical adaptation of the 2007 indie horror film of the same name about an evangelical Christian girl who discovers that she has teeth in her vagina. Marlo directs a workshop of the show's first act at the Musical Theatre Factory September 17th-20th.



AUGUST 2015

The Theatrical Culinary Project has its second workshop July 28th-August 6th, following a successful Indiegogo campaign! The two-week workshop brings Marlo, Co-Creator & Producer, Sasha Eden, and Dramaturg Anne Davison together for an artistic residency at SPACE on Ryder Farm, followed by a table work process with an ensemble of actors in New York City, the integration of Chef Carla Hall and her menu, and culminating in an intimate first draft reading and dinner at The Kitchen Table on August 6th. Marlo and her partner, Artistic Producer Sasha Eden, are developing The Theatrical Culinary Project: an immersive culinary theater piece bringing four playwrights and one chef into collaboration for the building of a multi-storylined play taking place in real time in a fictitious restaurant. The play will explore varied stories of race, class, and gender politics, while the audience dines on a menu created by the Chef de Cuisine, which in itself is a character in the play. TCP's team includes our Artistic Culinary Producer, celebrated chef Carla Hall (Top Chef, Top Chef All Stars, The Chew), and our phenomenal playwrights Courtney Baron, Hilary Bettis, and Daniel Pearle. This May we bring our writers and chef together for a first workshop in New York. Marlo directs.



APRIL 2015

Marlo's company, Eating Their Words, produces a special benefit event for the incredible not for profit organization, Teens For Food Justice, on April 27th at Tocqueville restaurant in New York. The evening will feature World Premiere plays written for the evening by Tony nominee Douglas Carter Beane (Little Dog Laughed), Zakiyyah Alexander (10 Things To Do Before I Die), and Liz Flahive (Nurse Jackie), and an original song by Eli Bolin (Found). Performing in the event are Tony nominee Jeremy Shamos (Clybourne Park, Birdman), Tony nominee Isabel Keating (The Boy From Oz), Florencia Lozano (One Life To Live), and Obie Award winner Nina Hellman (Role Models). Marlo directs.



APRIL 2015

Marlo headed to Houston's TUTS Underground to choreograph the new musical LMNOP, directed by Joe Calarco. LMNOP features Book & Lyrics by Scott Burkell, and Music by Paul Loesel. With performances led by Jared Zirilli (Pretty Filthy), Maddy Trumble (Wicked), Natalie Venetia Belcon (Avenue Q), and Michele Ragusa (Young Frankenstein), LMNOP takes us to the island of Nollop, where chaos arises when letters begin to fall from the town monument and government officials ban them one by one. The community depends on the strength of a determined teenage girl to fight for their freedom of speech. This unique musical reminds us of how precious our liberties are and how important it is to have the courage to stand up for what we believe.



MARCH 2015

Marlo directed Ben Toth's American Songbook Concert at Lincoln Center on March 11th, featuring World Premieres of his collaborations with John Patrick Shanley, Todd Almond, Brian Crawley, and Meghan Brown. This incredible evening was performed by Cheyenne Jackson, Lindsay Mendez, Santino Fontana, Taylor Mac, Dawn Cantwell, Ben Davis, Erin Davie, Will Reynolds, and Grace Wall.
